Plant types and planting times
The normal cultivation of June-bearing fruit uses fresh plants, which are planted sometime in August. The harvest of these plants take place one year later in June. Next to these fresh plants growers also make use of cold-stored plants. these are often used for substrate cultivation, but also for delayed growing in the open field. Plant density varies from 4 plants per m² in the open field to 10 plants per m² on substrate. The perpetual fruiting strawberries are planted either during the second half of September, in case of fresh plants, or as early as possible in the spring, when using cold stored plants. Harvest is from July to the first frost in the autumn for both plant dates.
