Philippe Appeltans (Belgian nationality, born in 1972) graduated in 1995 as an Agricultural engineer at the Catholic University of Leuven. He started his professional career as a consultant for young farmers. In 1997 he was appointed as president of the Belgian young farmers and became a member of the Executive Board of Boerenbond, the Belgian Farmers' Union. In 1999 he was elected as vice-president of CEJA, the European Council of Young Farmers and was strongly involved in European Agricultural politics.
On January 1, 2003 he became adviser for the horticultural sector in the research department of Belgian Farmers' Union. Since September 1, 2007, he is the Secretary general of VBT - The Association of Belgian Horticultural Auctions. Besides his responsibility for the operation of VBT, he serves on the Board of Directors of many national and international organisations in the interest of the Belgian horticultural cooperatives.
